* First translation in French of this Yiddish journal written in 1789-1790, during the French revolution, describing events concerning the political situation and events concerning the Jews. Abraham Goudchaux Spire was the son of rabbi Goudchaux Spire (Gettschlik Speier) and grandson of Moïse May, founder of the Hebrew press in Metz. Abraham Spire wrote this journal, called the Zeitung, in Yiddish. Only two complete series of this journal exist. One is in the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana in Amsterdam, and served as a basis for this French translation.
