* Jean Harduin, Jesuit classical philologist and theologian acquired fame with his ‘Conciliorum collectio’, a critical edition of the text of the Councils (1726), but also remained controversial as he questioned the authenticity of many classical writers. Some of his writings, such as the Opera varia and Opera selecta were later put on the Index.
