* John Spencer, English theologian and hebraist. In his most famous work De legibus Hebraeorum, first published in 1685 (in libri tres), Spencer laid the foundations of the science of comparative religion and provided a survey on the religious laws and rites of the Jewish people. This second edition, enlarged with a fourth volume, is considered by most scholars to be the best edition.
