* Dutch edition of the Pinax Microcosmographicus by the German physician Johannes Remmelin (1583-1632), first published in Augsburg in 1613 as ‘Catroptrum microcosmicum suis aere incisis visionibus splendens cum historia et pinace de novo prodit’ : three separate broadsheets on the anatomy of the male and female body, drawn by Remmelin and engraved by Lucas Kilian. This Dutch edition of 1667 contains the three original anatomical plates, redesigned with alterations by the Dutch engraver and printer Justus Danckers (1635-1701). The three anatomical plates are composed of several overlapping layers so that the male and female corpse and its main parts could be disected as an exercise for students. Danckers added a fourth plate: ‘Afbeeldenisse der Huyd-aderen, die men gewoon is te openen, en te koppen.’ A fine copy of this beautiful 17th century ‘flapbook’, with explanatory texts in Latin and Dutch. Complete with all plates in good condition. A few traces of use inside, no loss of text. Rare. Detailed description and photos available on request.
